The challenge

Running a decoration business can become complicated.

Turnover may be growing while margins, cash, capacity and customer value remain unclear. The owner becomes increasingly busy, but not necessarily better informed.

Underpin helps owners step back, establish the facts and decide what to do next.

  • Systems that no longer support the size or complexity of the business
  • Financial reports that do not provide the management insight the owner needs
  • Too much reliance on a small number of customers
  • Customers that consume more time than their value justifies
  • Limited visibility of production performance and capacity
  • Weak forecasting, cash-flow planning or management information
  • Limited confidence in the quality or reliability of the underlying data
  • Important decisions made largely on instinct

What Underpin provides

Practical support built around your business.

Underpin is not general business coaching. It combines financial, commercial and operational understanding with direct experience of the garment-decoration industry.

01

Evidence and systems

Assess whether the business has the records, controls and management information needed to support reliable decisions.

02

Financial intelligence

Understand turnover, gross margin, overheads, profitability, cash and the trends behind the headline numbers.

03

Customer and portfolio intelligence

Identify customer value, concentration risk, movement and accounts to grow, maintain, monitor or reconsider.

04

Pricing and commercial performance

Review whether pricing reflects garments, decoration, handling, overhead, service demands and the required return.

05

Improvement priorities

Separate symptoms from underlying causes and focus attention on the actions likely to create the greatest value.

06

Ongoing management intelligence

Review progress, update the evidence and support better-informed decisions as the business changes.

A clearer starting point

The Underpin Foundations Review

Every business has a different starting point. The review begins by understanding the owner, the business and the problem that needs solving.

That might mean following an order through the business to understand where production becomes difficult. It might mean examining systems, responsibilities and workarounds. Or it might mean looking at margins, customers, capacity or management information. The purpose isn't to force every business through the same review. It's to establish what's really happening before deciding what needs to change.

The outcome is a clear view of the underlying issues, what can be improved and where attention should go first.

How Underpin works

The UNDERPIN Method

A practical process that starts by understanding the owner and the business, then establishes the evidence before recommendations are made.

U

Understand

Listen first. Understand the owner, the business and its ambitions.

N

Navigate the Evidence

Bring together the operational, financial and customer evidence needed to understand what is really happening.

D

Diagnose

Identify underlying causes rather than responding only to symptoms.

E

Evaluate

Consider the available options, risks and opportunities.

R

Recommend

Provide practical, evidence-based recommendations suited to the business.

P

Prioritise

Focus attention on the actions that matter most.

I

Implement

Turn priorities into clear actions, ownership and measurable progress.

N

Nurture Continual Improvement

Review progress, learn from results and strengthen the business over time.

A practical, experienced approach

Understand first. Establish the facts. Then advise.

That means looking at the workflow, systems and processes involved, alongside the financial, customer and operational evidence needed to test assumptions and identify the underlying causes.

Only then is the financial, customer and operational evidence examined to test assumptions, reveal patterns and support better decisions.

About Underpin

Built from real experience

One connected ecosystem.

Underpin does not exist in isolation. It forms part of a connected ecosystem built around the realities of the garment-decoration industry.

Pentire, DecoFlow and Underpin — one connected ecosystem

Pentire Branding — the real-world experience

The day-to-day reality of running a garment-decoration business, testing ideas and experiencing the same pressures faced by the businesses Underpin supports.

DecoFlow — the operational systems

Software developed to improve production control, capture useful information and help garment decorators work more effectively.

Underpin — the management intelligence

Financial, customer and operational evidence brought together to support clearer thinking, stronger systems and better decisions.

Different roles. One purpose: helping garment decorators build stronger businesses.

For representatives and industry contacts

Could Underpin help a garment decorator you know?

Underpin welcomes introductions from suppliers, representatives, accountants and industry contacts who recognise when an owner may benefit from clearer management information and experienced support.

The first conversation is informal and confidential. Its purpose is to understand the business, the challenges and whether Underpin is genuinely the right fit.

Deliberately limited

A small, focused client portfolio

Underpin is designed around a deliberately limited number of active clients. The aim is not to maximise client numbers, but to provide thoughtful, personal support while maintaining a high standard of work.

Start a conversation

Not sure what's really causing the problem?

The first step is an informal, confidential conversation. We'll talk through what's happening, where the frustrations are and what you've already tried. If Underpin can genuinely help, we'll work out the most appropriate next step.
